I have heard so many people talking about prayer journals and how wonderful they are. So, I decided to start keeping one too. I thought it would be really neat if I was to keep a journal with my prayer requests, Bible study notes, etc, and be able to read through it at a later time and see how the Lord worked in my life.
prayer requests...
answers to prayers...
Bible verses...
lessons...
revelations...
all in one book.
Well, I started mine on Monday, and I cannot even begin to tell you all what a blessings is has been to me.
I first read my Bible, then I write any verses that stood out to me, along with any new prayer requests. When I look through my prayer request section and see that a prayer has been answered, I write out in a different section the date it was answered and how it was answered.
Any journal works for a prayer journal, and you can make different labeled sections to help you keep everything organized.
The Lord commands us to pray, and to pray with out stopping{or ceasing}. The Lord can use our prayers to do mighty things!
Pray without ceasing.
{1 Thessalonians 5:17}
Do you keep a prayer journal?

Miriam,
ReplyDeleteI actually keep several "Spiritual journals." I guess part of that is being organized and having my thoughts categorized. :) :) It has been a blessing for me as well. Some of the journals I am more faithful to write in than others.
1) Prayer Journal. My Mom has kept a prayer journal for as long as I can remember. It took me a long time to get into it, but once I did, it really helped me to stay focused during prayer time - it has also helped me to keep more consistent.
2) Memory Verse Journal. When God convicted me about starting to memorize His Word last year, I started a journal so that I could see when the last time I memorized or reviewed a verse was. It's sobering to see the gaps in this dedication.
3) Special Verses Journal. There is something unique about a tiny journal. I love them. The journal that I jot down verses that God has brought to my attention is maybe 5"x3" (rough estimate). It's my little notebook of verses. I not only copy the verses, but I add a few of my thoughts so that I can look back and see *why* that verse was copied.
4) Bible Reading Journal. The most recent journal I started was this one. A couple of Sundays ago, I was at my uncle's church, and he preached an incredible sermon about how God's Word affects us (or should affect us). One of the things I came away with was a glimpse of how my daily Bible reading: when I close it, I close it. What I read affects me very little. So in this journal, I began writing a basic synopsis of what I read or what it said to me. It has been such a blessing!!!
I think that one of the things that has helped me the most in keeping these journals is because it gives me a glance - in black and white - of when I am neglecting my devotions. It is also such a blessing to read back over the lessons that God has (and is) teaching me. I am thankful for the free time He allows me to have so that I can do this - I realize that I might not always be able to be so consistent in writing down such things.
Blessings as you begin this journey!!!
By God's Grace,
Amanda
